Jessica Ghawi memorial to be held at CBC Saturday

A memorial service for Jessica Ghawi will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at the Community Bible Church near Loop 1604 and Gold Canyon.  The public is invited to attend and celebrate Ghawi’s life, which was abruptly taken during last week’s mass shooting inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater.

A native of San Antonio and graduate of Smithson Valley High School, Ghawi moved to Colorado last year to pursue a career in sports journalism.  In her professional life she went by the name of Jessica Redfield. 

The 24–year-old was among 12 people killed while watching a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 20.  Dozens more were injured. 

In lieu of flowers, Ghawi’s family is asking for donations to the Jessica Redfield Sports Journalism Fund, which will provide scholarships for upcoming young talents interested in pursuing journalism.
