Reagan was one of just three San Antonio campuses to make Newsweek magazine’s 2011 list of the top 500 high schools in the country. Thanks in part to a 98 percent graduation rate, 100 percent college bound rate and 1095 average SAT score, Reagan was ranked number 228 on the list.
The Stone Oak-based high school also made the list in 2010 and 2009.
The other two San Antonio schools included in Newsweek's Top 500 were the Northside Health Careers High School and the Communication Arts High School, both within the Northside Independent School District. Johnson High School, which was ranked 189 on the 2010 list, was not included in this year’s tally.
Newsweek developed the 2011 list of America’s Best High Schools based on six components: graduation rates, college matriculation rates, average SAT/ACT scores, average AP/IB/AICE scores, the number of AP tests taken per graduate and the number of AP courses offered. “In order to be considered for our list, each school had to complete a survey requesting specific data from the 2009-2010 academic year,” states Newsweek. “In total, more than 1,100 schools were assessed to produce the final list of the top 500 high schools.”
