Artistic Images reveals 2010 Christmas scenes

“Never work with children or animals,” warned an obviously very intelligent person long ago. Yet, photographer Elizabeth Homan either never received that memo or is simply one who doesn’t necessarily follow the rules. Not only has Homan built a career photographing kids, families and the rambunctious pet amidst elaborate and non-traditional settings, but she makes it look so easy.
Is it? “No,” Homan says with a laugh. “It’s definitely not easy.” Nature, of course, can be unruly, dogs have the attention span of a 2 year old and children can be, well, unpredictable to say the very least. Still, Homan’s photos, through her Artistic Images Portraits by Elizabeth studio, are flawless. From pregnant bellies and newborn babies to little girls in pigtails, high school seniors and brides on their wedding day, Homan forever captures life’s milestones and cherished memories.
“We want to be your family photographer,” she says. “That’s what we love.”
In business for more than 17 years, Homan first took a photography class in high school. Later, while studying ballet in college, she began taking pictures of dancers. “I took my two passions and put them together,” says Homan, who started her photography business soon after graduating. “It just evolved into what it is today.”
And what that is exactly is a studio unlike any other. Often forgoing traditional canvas backdrops and plastic props, Homan prefers to photograph clients in natural settings or amongst elaborate sets. From the Alamo to a San Antonio mission, the beach or mud hole, photos taken within a natural setting offer a more realistic depiction of a family, says Homan. Plus, these photos are more likely to be hung on the wall.
Artistic Images’ original sets, on the other hand, offer a bit of whimsy while building on childhood fantasies. Homan’s Christmas portraits are particularly popular and often feature jolly ol’ Saint Nick himself. “He is the real Santa,” Homan confirms. “He is awesome and he’s a really joyful person as well.”
At the urging of her clients, Homan has revealed the four Christmas sets available for the upcoming holiday season. Santa will be featured in the first two scenes -- “T’was the Night Before Christmas” available Nov. 5-6 and “Santa’s Workshop” available Nov. 12-13.
Artistic Images will also offer an “Away in the Manger” scene on Nov. 30 and “Silver Bells” Dec. 4. View all four scenes at http://portraitsbyelizabeth-elizabeth.blogspot.com/2010/08/christmas-2010-at-artistic-images.html.
