Johnson High School principal resigns

Kristopher Wickerham has decided to pursue a new career path and will not return as principal of Claudia Taylor Johnson High School this school year.  “This decision is bittersweet in that I have greatly valued my experience in this profession, particularly during my three years as principal at CTJ, yet am excited by the prospect of new challenges and growth,” states Wickerham in a recent letter to the Johnson community.

Wickerham was principal of Johnson High since the school opened in 2008 at 23203 Bulverde Road.  “I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has been a part of the planning, opening, and on-going achievements at CTJ.   Our many accomplishments in academics, the arts, and athletics are, without question, due to the support of a committed community of stakeholders,” Wickerham continues. “In short, I am quite proud of the campus our partnership has developed and believe it is important to note that, although my formal position within CTJ is changing, I will remain an equally proud community resident and parent in our outstanding school.”

John Mehlbrech, former principal of Tejeda Middle School, will take over the reigns at Johnson High.   Brenda Shelton, principal of Wood Middle School, will replace Mehlbrech at Tejeda. 

Hardy Oak Elementary School will also welcome a new principal, Lola Folkes, former principal of Oak Grove Elementary.  While former Walzem Elementary School Principal Laura Huggins was named the new principal of Canyon Ridge Elementary. 

"We have had many changes in administrative positions in the district," says Dr. Richard A. Middleton, NEISD superintendent of schools. "And through these changes, we see great growth from within our district. We have wonderful employees who bring strength, unique skills and expertise to their leadership roles."  

All NEISD schools will kick off the 2010-11 school years on Monday, Aug. 23.
