Blanco Road expansion project 90 percent complete

Late last month Bexar County Project Engineer David Wegmann announced the Blanco Road expansion project was now 90 percent complete.  “In all, the project is still ahead of schedule, albeit not as far along as had been projected this time last year,” says Wegmann.  “The contractor has essentially until the end of the year to complete the project, but we anticipate it will be complete well before that. The unusual rains, after two years of drought, have slowed things down a bit.”

The northern end of the roadway has been completed and is open to traffic.  The final leg of the project includes the construction taking place from just north of Folanari to the southern portion of the project.  Specifically:

·         Bexar Met and CPS work on the east side of the road by the Pinnacle subdivision.  Afterwards there will be a large modular block retaining wall constructed on that exposed rock cut north of Folanari.

·         Bridge work is ongoing at the Panther Springs Creek crossing just north of the Greystone Subdivision.  This is a pretty big undertaking since the entire structure is cast in place versus the use of precast bridge beams, and the contractor is still weeks away from being complete in that area.

·         Final widening is essentially complete at the Huebner/Blanco intersection and the median on Huebner Road east of Blanco has been modified to allow a double left turn lane for traffic traveling south on Blanco.  However, that roadway will not open until project completion because of logistics of construction and temporary traffic signals.

·         Roadway widening work and final storm drainage construction continues south of Huebner.

·         Median revisions will be made on various portions of the project to better facilitate traffic movements into and out of various businesses and neighborhoods.
