2nd public meeting on North Sector Plan tonight

At 6 p.m. tonight, San Antonio’s Planning and Development Services Department will host its second public meeting on the North Sector Plan, a proposed long-range guide to the preferred growth, conservation and redevelopment of the city’s northern half.  Once adopted, the Sector Plan will become a component in the city’s Master Plan.

Including Stone Oak, the North Sector is roughly bounded by Loop 410 to the south, Bandera Road to the east, I-35 to the west and the county line to the north.  There are currently three drafts for the North Sector Plan’s vision statement, which range from a desire to preserve the area’s natural resources to an emphasis on private property rights, sustainable development, recreational opportunities, diverse housing choices and high-quality employment.

A team of more than 60 community and business leaders, including representatives from the District 9 Neighborhood Alliance and Stone Oak Property Owners Association, has already been assembled to assist in the preparation of the North Sector Plan.

To date, primary goals include a desire to connect linear and pocket parks, maintain libraries, address areas underserved by emergency responders or police officers, expand economic development along major thoroughfares and protect the viability of Camp Bullis, among a slew of other objectives.        

Wednesday’s public meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 12500 NW Military Hwy.  Along with a presentation on the Sector Plan, the meeting will seek public input on community issues, assets and values.
