Valentine fundraiser at Boston's Pizza ends soon

There’s just a little over a week left to participate in a Valentine’s-themed fundraiser supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Through Sunday, Feb. 14, Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar, including the one near Hwy 281 and Loop 1604, will sell $1 paper hearts for JDRF. Additionally, the restaurant will sell heart-shaped pizza and dessert Jan. 12-14, with $1 from each order also going towards the research foundation.
“Working with charitable organizations is a cornerstone of Boston’s, and it provides an opportunity for local franchisees to engage, support and give back to the communities they service,” says Mike Best, Boston’s chief operating officer. “We hope to surpass last year’s benchmark of $31,000 as we continue our partnership with JDRF to raise awareness and funding for type 1 diabetes research.”
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults, requires a lifetime of injected or pumped insulin and can lead to devastating complications, including kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke and amputation. There are approximately three million Americans living with type 1 diabetes and more than 15,000 children are diagnosed with the disease each year.
This is the second year Boston’s U.S. franchise has helped raise funds for JDRF, which is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes research in the world. The foundation has awarded more than $1.4 billion since 1970.
The sister company of Canada’s Boston Pizza, Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar was first introduced to the U.S. in 1998. A full-service, family dining restaurant with separate sports bar, Boston’s offers 17 varieties of gourmet pizza, as well as salads, burgers, sandwiches, ribs and wings. There are currently 53 Boston’s Pizza and Sports Bars across the country and six more are expected to open in 2010.
The local Boston’s Pizza, located within the Legacy retail center at 1827 N. Loop 1604 East, is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday. For more information, visit www.bostonsgourmet.com/?q=bostonsgourmet_restaurantpages_sanantonio.
