Artistic Images scheduling summer portrait sessions

Senior portrait by Artistic Images

“Never work with children or animals,” warned an obviously very intelligent person long ago.  Yet, photographer Elizabeth Homan either never received that memo or is simply one who doesn’t necessarily follow the rules.  Not only has Homan built a career photographing kids, families and the rambunctious pet amidst elaborate and non-traditional settings, but she makes it look so easy.

Is it?  “No,” Homan says with a laugh.  “It’s definitely not easy.”  Nature, of course, can be unruly, dogs have the attention span of a 2-year-old and children can be, well, unpredictable to say the very least.  Still, Homan’s photos, through her Artistic Images company, are flawless.  From pregnant bellies and newborn babies to little girls in pigtails, high school seniors and brides on their wedding day, Homan forever captures life’s milestones and cherished memories in portraits that are as emotional as they are beautiful.

“We want to be your family photographer,” she says.  “That’s what we love.”

In business for 16 years, Homan first took a photography class in high school.  Later, while studying ballet in college, she began taking pictures of dancers.  “I took my two passions and put them together,” says Homan, who started her photography business soon after graduating.  “It just evolved into what it is today.”

And what that is exactly is a studio unlike any other.  Often forgoing traditional canvas backdrops and plastic props, Homan prefers to photograph clients in natural settings or amongst elaborate sets.  From the Alamo to a San Antonio mission, the beach or mud hole, photos taken within a natural setting offer a more realistic depiction of a family, says Homan.  Plus, these photos are more likely to be hung on the wall.

Artistic Images’ original sets, on the other hand, offer a bit of whimsy while building on childhood fantasies.  This summer, Homan is bringing back a number of favorite sessions, such as the Watermelon Bash – which includes a rustic backdrop filled with the season’s favorite treat -- on July 17.  The family pooch can take center stage during a Dog Days of Summer session July 31 and all little princesses can be pretty in pink during a Tutus and Tennies session Aug. 7.   The following week, allow your child to show his wild side in front of an urban setting during Homan’s Bad to the Bone session.

Already thinking about this year’s Christmas card?  Homan will offer a special holiday portrait session using your choice of a number of available settings on Sept. 19. The session includes 25 postcard-style Christmas cards and eight wallets.

Finally, 2010 graduates interested in posing for their senior portraits during the summer will receive 50 percent off their session fees.  Photographs must be taken before Sept. 1 to take advantage of this hefty discount.
