53 speakers attend Encino Park Career Day

Mayoral candidate Julian Castro and NEISD Superintendent of Schools Richard Middleton were two of the 53 speakers Encino Park Elementary School students had the opportunity to meet during a Career Day last month. Counselors Alice Pearce and Peggy Majni spearheaded this event, which also included presentations by police officers, fire fighters, swat team members, military officers, coaches, storytellers, lawyers, doctors, accountants and veterinarians.

Each student heard at least 5 different speakers talk about their job, and each speaker spoke for 25 minutes with the children about their chosen career. The speakers shared the necessary qualifications to enter the profession and the type of student it would take to be successful in that career.

The goal of career day was to raise the awareness level of the students to the wide variety of careers available to the students and the necessary prerequisites to achieve their professional career goals.
