The architectural design for Lopez Middle School by Pfluger Associates Architects was named Most Outstanding Secondary School Design in the State of Texas in the 2008 Exhibit of School Architecture competition.

"This award demonstrates NEISD's continuing commitment to design school facilities that truly enhance the delivery of instruction and provide an outstanding environment for the attainment of a first class education," said Garrett Sullivan, executive director of construction management.

In addition, the Lopez design was recognized for the planning process, design, educational appropriateness and innovation.

This competition highlights new educational construction and renovation projects in Texas within the past five years and is a collaborative effort of the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas Society of Architects.
