A-AAAKey offers storage solutions

A-AAAKey Mini Storage

Even when the economy is struggling, one thing is for certain: people will always have too much stuff and not enough room to store it.  The kids’ school work, toys or baby clothes, antiques, books, Beanie Babies, old tax returns, files or photos can only be shoved in so many places.  Eventually the closets, attic, two-car garage or office hits capacity and finding even more space becomes a necessity.  Enter A-AAAKey Mini Storage.

“We can’t give people a need for storage, but we can show them how it can work for them,” Director of Marketing Dennis Hufford says of A-AAAKey’s individual storage units, which range in size from 25 to 300 square feet.

Considered one of the pioneers of the self-storage industry, A-AAAKey founder Thomas Brundage opened his first storage facility in 1971.  Today, the San Antonio-based company owns and operates 2.5 million square feet of rental space on more than 40 properties across nine states.  Of course, so do a large number of other companies that have surfaced in the last 30 years thanks to the ever-present need for storage.

“The industry is doing very well. It seems to be unaffected by so many things.  The competition is there, but it’s a very friendly industry,” says Hufford, while noting A-AAAKey’s dedication to excellent customer service helps the company stand apart from all the rest.

“We’re highly rated in the industry,” he says.

In order to fulfill a mission of providing “secure, convenient and clean storage at a reasonable price,” A-AAAKey believes excellent customer service is, well, key.  “We do things a little extra special,” says Rayleen Hufford, Dennis’ wife and property manager of A-AAAKey’s 1307 Old Bitters Road facility.

On top of assisting customers after hours and ensuring people rent exactly the right amount of storage space, Rayleen also refers customers they can’t accommodate to other companies, and vice versa.  “Our goal,” says Rayleen, “is to help people find what they need when they need it.”

Named 2003 Facility of the Year, the Old Bitters Road property highlights where A-AAAKey is headed in the future.  With more than 67,000 square feet of rentable space, the main building offers climate control units with ceilings at least nine feet high to allow for maximum stacking.  Security is top-notch with alarms attached to every storage unit, a gated entrance and closed circuit surveillance system.  Although customers can enter their storage units between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., the entire property is closed to the public after hours.  Renters also possess the only key to their storage and Hufford and Rayleen live in an apartment on the property, adding even more levels of security.

Those planning the Old Bitters Road facility also had the foresight to place fire extinguishers flush with the wall so customers won’t knock into them while navigating their way to units and add motion detectors to the lights in order to accommodate those with their hands full of belongings.

In order to meet the needs of commercial clients, the facility accepts deliveries and will provide boxes and shelving units for storing files.  Constantly at capacity, A-AAAKey recently built an annex at the Old Bitters Road property, adding an additional 265 units and a much-needed loading dock.
