All About Shoes offers high-end look for less

All About Shoes

All About Shoes is the Clark Kent of San Antonio.  Located in the Legacy retail center near Loop 1604 and Hwy 281, the shop has the feel of a high-end boutique and a showroom filled with expensive-looking pumps.  Yet, those who peek beyond the “disguise” will be shocked to find all the merchandise is incredibly affordable.

“That’s the whole concept – to have a stylish look and not break the bank,” says owner LaTanya Facen.  “Some women won’t even come in the store because they automatically expect $300 and $400 shoes.  And when they finally do come in they are pleasantly surprised.”

Like most women, Facen has always loved shoes.  A few years back she began hosting Mary Kay-style shoe parties to sell merchandise she acquired at out-of-state trade shows.  Then in June of 2007, Facen took the plunge, left a good paying job as an accountant and opened All About Shoes.

“It was quite a leap for me,” she says.  “But, it allows me to be more accessible to more people more often.”

Of course, she still hosts shoe parties at the store and continues her quest to offer her unique finds from such fashion-forward cities as New York, Las Vegas and Atlanta at prices most can afford.

“We generally sell brands you will not find in this city,” she says of her collection, which includes her two favorite brands, Luichiny and Sergio Zelcer.  Prices can range from $49 to $115.

The fact that women love shoes is hardly a mystery, although even Facen can’t explain why we care so much about what goes on our feet.  Perhaps shoes are one way to define who we are.  Perhaps they make an outfit complete.  Perhaps we love knowing our favorite shoes will always fit, even after engulfing six chocolate éclairs.  Regardless of the reason, “most women prefer to have multiple pairs of shoes,” says Facen who owns more than 150 pairs herself.

Facen’s love of footwear is clearly evident in her showroom.  Accented by striking purple couches, All About Shoes’ collection -- as well as the handbags and custom jewelry Facen also sells -- are displayed like artwork in a gallery with each contour and detail garnering as much attention as the price.

“There’s always going to be an emphasis on shoes,” insists Facen.  But, how does an obvious shoe connoisseur not wind up buying half of the store’s inventory for herself?  When asked, Facen quickly answers, “You have to learn discipline.”

All About Shoes is located at 1723 N. Loop 1604 E. Suite 106.  For more information, or to view Facen’s collection, visit www.4allaboutshoes.com.
