Free/Cheap things for HS Students to do during the Summer

As summer continues, most students find themselves doing the same old things: movies, ice cream, and 5bucks (starbucks).
As we try to save up money for that dream car or more importantly college, we find it hard to do things around town that are both fun and low cost. Just as students grow tired of doing the same things, parents grow even more tired of their kids constantly hitting up the Bank Of Parents. So if anyone knows low-cost or even free activities for high school students to do that are also entertaing, Offer Them Up!!!

A few suggestions...

I can already see you rolling your eyes at these suggestions.  But, please note I only have little ones in the house and it’s been a few decades since I was a teenager.  Not to mention I spent those “wild” teenage years in a small town where tipping cows, hopping freight trains and discovering the ultimate swimming hole made for a happening summer vacation.  Whoo-hoo!

Still, I searched throughout San Antonio for entertaining and affordable activities.  Here are some suggestions, all of which are under $20.

Malibu Grand Prix, 3330 Cherry Ridge Drive
A fun park with miniature golf, batting cages, go-cart racing, paddle boats and videogames.  Enjoy unlimited activities for $18.99 with coupon at www.malibugrandprix.com/park/sa.

Missions Baseball Game, Hwy 90 and Callaghan
Okay, they’re not the Yankees, but minor league baseball games can be quite entertaining. And who can beat the price!  Tickets begin at $6.50.  For more information visit http://sanantonio.missions.milb.com.

Tubing on the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake
What better way to spend an extremely hot, summer day?  River Sports Tubes offers all day tube rental, shuttle and parking for $15, minus a $2 coupon available at www.riversportstubes/com.

Watchtower Challenge, Natural Bridge Caverns
This just looks like a lot of fun and, again, cheap.  The Natural Bridge Caverns’ Watchtower Challenge includes a climbing tower ($6.95 plus tax) and zip line ($8.95 plus tax) which can carry you back to the ground at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour! Who needs Starbucks with that adrenaline booster?  Learn more at www.naturalbridgecaverns.com/watchTower.aspx.

Water Wars, Embassy Miniature Golf near W. Bitters and Hwy 281
Grab a couple friends and enjoy the ultimate water balloon battle game.  Mini-battles begin at $4 for two people.  All Out Water War, for two to four players, is $15.  For more information visit http://embassyminiaturegolf.com.

Miniature Golf, Ice and Golf Center at Northwoods
One 18-hole game is $7.  Public ice skating is also $7, plus $3 skate rental.  Northwoods’ website is www.northwoodsice.net.

Bowling, Country Lanes at 13307 San Pedro
Games are $5.25 each, plus $4 shoe rental.

Volunteer, San Antonio Zoo
Volunteering offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the perks of area attractions…for free.  The San Antonio Zoo, for example, offers a year-round volunteer program.  Participants help out with special events, educate zoo visitors and assist with office work, among other tasks.  An initial fee of $20 is charged for uniform and training.  For more information visit www.sazoo-aq.org.

Church Youth Groups
Most area churches have well-established youth groups with regularly scheduled meetings, dinners and trips.

Parks
San Antonio does have some pretty nice parks, including Brackenridge and McAllister.  Grab some friends, bikes, a ball, water balloons and a picnic lunch and enjoy a day of fun…for free!

Thank You!

These are some Great Ideas! Thank you Very Much!!!
