Johnson Band Kicks Off Fund Raising for Prestigious Selection

Claudia Taylor "Lady Bird" Johnson High School is the newest school in the Northeast School District. Established in 2008, the award winning band has put Johnson on the map at a national level. With dedicated band directors and over 200 members, the Jaguars have received state and national recognition. JHS has been selected to the state UIL Marching Band competition two of the last three years. They were Grand National Finalists at Bands of America, and the Wind Ensemble earned 5th place in the TMEA Honor Band Competition this year.

Jarel's Toy Chest Donation Drive

District Attorney Susan Reed and Bexar County Commissioner Sergio Chico Rodriguez have teamed up with Zedric's to help raise money and collect gifts for children in need. All donations benefit New Life Christian Center's annual toy giveaway, Jarel's Toy Chest. Please consider donating a new, brand-named, un-wrapped toy for a child in need between the ages 0-12.
Thieves break into James Avery jewelry store
Submitted by Courtney Schoenemann on Tue, 11/20/2012 - 11:11am.Around 2:20 this morning the James Avery jewelry store located in the Vineyard shopping center near Blanco and 1604 was broken into. Suspects pried the wooden doors open, escaping with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
Employees would not comment on the incident, but investigators are studying surveillance video in hopes of catching the persons responsible.

Local Businesses Support Homeless Veterans
Submitted by Courtney Schoenemann on Thu, 11/15/2012 - 3:48pm.The Alamo Area Mutual Housing Association hosted their first annual "One Night One Hope" event earlier this month at the Woodlawn Lake Park, Casting Pond. Many residents do not realize that there are approximately 400 homeless veterans in San Antonio. The AAMHA serves over 150 veteran families in the area, and decided this event would be a great way to raise funds and educate the public.

Gas Prices Cooperating for Holiday Travel

Projections released yesterday reveal that there will be an increased number of Americans traveling compared to last year. AAA estimates that 43.6 million Americans will drive or hop on a plane to reach their Thanksgiving destinations. Although this number shows an increase of .07 percent from last year, almost 90 percent of these travelers will choose to drive instead of fly. The average American will endure a 588 mile trip this season which is down from 706 miles.
There’s Still Work to Be Done

US 281 Southbound main lanes at Loop 1604 will be closed November 9-11, 2012 from 10 PM to 5 AM.
Loop 1604 Eastbound and Westbound main lanes from Gold Canyon to Redland will be closed nightly November 8-11, 2012 from 10 PM - 5 A.M.
Loop 1604 Eastbound exit ramp to Stone Oak will be closed November 3, 2012 at 3 A.M for two months.

Sonterra Wall is Good as New after Hit and Run

Stone Oak residents see a new hole in this wall about once a month, but why is this vicious cycle reoccurring? Head of Sonterra Management Company, Ray Jansure said that this particular incident happened a couple of weeks ago early in the morning.
Eastbound exit ramp before Stone Oak Parkway Closed for Two Months
Submitted by admin on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 5:12pm.According to the spokesperson at the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority, the Loop 1604 Eastbound exit ramp to Stone Oak will be closed starting November 3, 2012 at 3 A.M for two months. This exit ramp will be reconstructed to allow the auxiliary lane for the new East to South direct connector. All traffic will be detoured to use the Blanco exit ramp.
