Woman sentenced for killing vet clinic employee

A woman who shot and killed her ex-husband’s former girlfriend outside a vet clinic last year was sentenced to 40 years in prison Friday.  Leticia Arcos, 37, pled guilty to first-degree murder for gunning down 32-year-old Kristy Appleby in the parking lot of the Bulverde Creek Animal Hospital.

H-E-B insists its eggs are safe to eat and not included within the ongoing nationwide recall.  In a statement released Friday, the local grocery chain assured the public most of its eggs are produced in Texas and not included within those brands recalled due to salmonella-related illnesses.

Preliminary work for 1604/281 interchange continues

Crews are continuing exploratory boring operations to determine the placement of future bridge and column foundations for a massive interchange at Hwy 281 and Loop 1604.  Motorists can anticipate some road closures in the area due to this preliminary work.

281 Super Street: Construction update

Motorists can anticipate nightly lane closures on Hwy 281 Sunday, Aug. 22 through Thursday, Aug. 26 due to continuing construction of the Super Street. However, the widening of the center median on the westbound side of Encino Rio is finally complete and no lane closures on that road are expected this week.

In order to increase instruction time, the North East ISD has changed daily start and end times at the elementary, middle and high school levels.  When classes resume for the 2010-11 school year, classes at all NEISD high school campuses will be held from 8:45 a.m.
