The Young Chefs Academy, a children's cooking school near Huebner and Stone Oak Parkway, will host an Easter Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2.  Participants will learn how to make Chicken Crescent Rolls, Rabbit Greens with Raspberry Dressing and Traditional Carrot Cake. Cost is $30 for non-members and $20 for members and the workshop is appropriate for children 6 years of age and older.  For more information, or to reserve a seat, call 402-0023.

On Saturday, April 3, Northrock Church will host an inaugural Helicopter Easter Egg Drop at Lopez Middle School.  More than 15,000 toy- and candy-filled eggs will be dropped onto the school's practice fields at 11 a.m. Registration for the egg hunt, which will be open for children up to 11 years of age, will begin at 9:30 a.m.  Free and open to the public, this event will also include games, inflatable jump houses, giveaways, refreshments and more.  Visit http://northrocksa.org for more information.

The Scholastic Literacy Caravan will be parked outside the Bannwolf Public Library at Reagan High School from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3.  Children are invited to climb aboard and enjoy games, crafts and books.  This event is free.

A benefit night supporting Hardy Oak Elementary will be held Wednesday, April 7 at Carino's Italian restaurant, 1301 N. Loop 1604 West. Ten percent of all sales made during this event will be donated to the school.  Don't forget to tell your server you are participating in the Hardy Oak Benefit Night!

Every Thursday in April a "Spirit Night" fundraising event supporting Reagan High School's 2010 Project Graduation will be held at a different local restaurant.  On Thursday, April 8, Spirit Night will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at McAlister's Deli near Loop 1604 and Hwy 281.  A portion of sales made during this time will support Project Graduation, an all-night drug- and alcohol-free graduation party held for Reagan High seniors.

The Mays Family YMCA, 21654 Blanco Road, will host its first annual Baseball Express Skills and Agility Challenge from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 11.  Open to children 5 to 14 years of age, the event will include a number of sports challenges, as well as a moon bounce, music, prize drawings and food vendors.  Cost is $15 for one child, $25 for two children and $35 for three children.  Proceeds benefit the Mays YMCA Scholarship Program.  For more information, visit www.ymcasatx.org/maysfamily.

A second Public Scoping Meeting on the Loop 1604 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 12 at the Valero headquarters building near I-10 and Loop 1604.  Led by the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority, the EIS will examine and recommend alternatives for improving mobility within 37 miles of Loop 1604 between US 90 West and IH 35 North.  The same presentation will also be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Parents of current eighth-graders expected to attend Reagan High School next fall are invited to attend a Parent Information Session at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 13.  Held in the high school cafeteria, this informative event will include presentations by Reagan Principal Bill Boyd, PTA President Beth Cholerton and school counselors, as well as a tour of the campus.

Lo Bello de San Antonio will host the sixth annual Champagne and Diamonds Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at the Alzafar Shrine Temple, 901 N. Loop 1604 West.  Along with brunch, the event will include a grito contest between fiesta royalty and a silent auction.  Guests will also have the opportunity to find a two-carat diamond in the bottom of one lucky glass of champagne.  Cost is $125 per person and proceeds benefit Lo Bello's education and outreach initiatives.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held at Johnson High School Friday, April 30.  Set to begin at 7 p.m., this 24-hour relay offers the community an opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and join the fight against this disease.  All are welcome to form relay teams.  Registration is $10 per person.  Team members are also encouraged to raise $100 in sponsorships.  For more information or to register, visit
